Switzerland has concluded agreements with about 30 countries in order to enable young people to extend their occupational and linguistic skills in Switzerland.
Argentine, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Phillipines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, UK,
Ukraine, USA
To qualify as trainees, nationals of these countries
must have concluded vocational training of at least two years' duration, and
they must not be older than 35 years (Australie, New Zealand, Hungary, Poland and Russia: 30 years). The agreement with Canada also admits students for working stays in connection with their education.
Please note: As a consequence of the Bilateral Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons between Switzerland and the EU, nationals of the previous EU15 countries and of Norway no longer need a work permit in Switzerland. Owing to this improved legal status, the trainee agreements with these countries have been suspended.
